Linda Jerome learned to throw pots in high school. She made and sold pottery into young adulthood, until she married and had children, when like many artists, having a family took precedence over art. Later as she was able to carve out time, she came back to artistic expression in drawing and painting in watercolor, acrylic, and oil. She took many art classes at PCC, and went on to get her BA in D...rawing, Painting and Printmaking at Portland State. Thinking she may want to teach, she continued on at Pacific University and achieved her Masters in Teaching in 2006. After the deep dive into education, she was a substitute teacher and became a studio artist at Sequoia Gallery and Studios in Hillsboro for 10 years, exhibiting annually as a featured artist at Sequoia, and other venues, and also became a member with The Gallery at Ten Oaks in 2017.
"On a whim, in 2019, my husband, Dave, bought a potter's wheel and began learning to throw pottery. In 2021 I returned to my pottery roots, at first throwing, and then discovered a love of hand building sculptural forms. My favorite subjects are imaginative human figures, rabbits and birds that are narrative in nature. Currently Dave and I have "Hangar Studio", a pottery business at our home. I exhibit sculpture at Gallery at Ten Oaks, and Dave and I sell our work at local art fairs and from our home studio."
Bird Vase 1
Fine Art by artist Linda Jerome - Description: I continue to look for ways to use birds in my work, especially in vessels for flowers. This is one of two recent vases with a collar to hold the bouquet upright, while the birds sit on the edge, watching.

Flower Boat #9
Fine Art by artist Linda Jerome - Description: Originally, I made a flower boat following a pattern from a ceramics magazine. It came out well, but when I saw it with flowers, I thought how fun it would be to see a small bird looking out from among the stems.
One of my hobbies is bird watching - mostly at our house. I've become very aware of them, flitting around in our bushes, scratching on the ground and nesting in unexpected places. It's another dimension of gardening that I love. Each of the flower boats I make is unique. Each bird is also unique. Their gesture and positions are based on real types of birds, but I use the glaze generically - using loose strokes because I think it helps with the feeling of the bird in motion.
Birds and flowers are two joys of life that I'm looking to highlight in these Flower Boats. My intent was to make it easy to put flowers, or stems into the holders for a quick arrangement that is appealing and whimsical. Adding frogs to the Flower Boat pots has been another delight for me. I see small bright green frogs in my yard often - another form of life in the ecosystem that indicates things are healthy.

Free Ride
Fine Art by artist Linda Jerome - Description: Hand built ceramic sculpture fired to cone 6. This piece is narrative, and tells a story the viewer can invent. I was inspired by the idea of a turtle, typically slow moving, presenting an inviting transport for these curious birds.
Hidden
Fine Art by artist Linda Jerome - Description: Hand built ceramic sculpture fired to cone 6. A small bird trying to be unseen in the undergrowth. The suggestion of a hand could be a protecting friend, or a lurking trap.
May Azalea
Fine Art by artist Linda Jerome - Description: From a very old bush, the yellow blossoms are anticipated each spring. I wanted to capture the grace of the arrangement of petals in a few flowers in this oil painting.
On the Prowl

Pre-programmed
Fine Art by artist Linda Jerome - Description: Hand built ceramic sculpture fired to cone 6. This fellow doesn't know what he's missing, though he would like too. His thought ribbons are evident, but he's also struggling to shed the structure imposed upon him.
Singular
Fine Art by artist Linda Jerome - Description: This one rose was enough beauty to capture my attention. All of it seemed appealing; the leaves fanning out, the light shining through it's golden petals, it's bowed head, and the play of light through the vase and water. A must to capture in an oil painting.
Small Bird, Wings
Fine Art by artist Linda Jerome - Description: Hand built ceramic sculpture fired to cone 6. A small bird finding a safe place to land, wings outstretched.
Social Group
Fine Art by artist Linda Jerome - Description: Hand built ceramic sculpture fired to cone 6. Small birds flitting quickly from branch to branch and chasing each other. They live as a group, keeping track of each other. I hope to capture their inquisitiveness and fast movement by using the gesture of their body postures.
The Gardener
Fine Art by artist Linda Jerome - Description: Hand built ceramic sculpture fired to cone 6. A man who loves being outside working. His pleasant nature and well worn hat attract a bird in for a landing. It may be a safe place to build a nest.
