This piece is one of a series of thickly-textured images of the Oregon country side. I created this archeological image by building up multiple layers (papers, printed words, Chinese writing, intricate patterns, imagined cliff cities, moss) on an iridescent copper painted wood panel. I then applied layers of paint, pens, pastels, wax, and oil paint over the papers, cutting thru to the underpainting in places. I wanted to convey the ancient history and geology of the lands of the Oregon Trail.
