Art has been a part of who Phil Fishwick is from his earliest memories. Phil can't remember not creating. From crayons, finger paints and the flour and salt "clay" his mother made to the porcelain clays he currently uses, Phil's life has always been about making things.
Ceramics became Phil's primary medium when he was short one 3D class for graduation and found himself in the pottery studio for his last art class. Phil was smitten and has been under the spell of this medium ever since.
After teaching ceramic arts at Rogue Community College, Phil retired back to McMinnville and set up a small studio. His current work is all in porcelain which he impresses with wood and ceramic stamps that he makes. The forms are all vessel-based and the themes represent some aspects human condition. Phil thinks of the series as "In the Garden of Love, Lust and Loss".
"Clay . . . 'tis a cruel mistress, but she makes me happy, so I wouldn't have it any other way." - Phil Fishwick
